This Project is centered on the identification and characterization of the risks associated with viral load and the chemical constituents present in the aquifer systems and soils of the Sta. Margarida Military Camp (CMSM) after 60 years of use. Although water supply to the "urban zone" of the CMSM is performed through the municipal public water supply system, the Caniceira borehole has been regularly used both for the washing of military installations and vehicles and for filling pool used by the occupants of the CMSM. In this Project, monitoring of water-soil systems is proposed to identify the presence and quantification of human enteric viruses, such as Norovirus, Adenovirus and Hepatitis A, which are often detected in environmental systems and have been implicated as the cause of several outbreaks, of which Noroviruses are considered the primary cause of viral gastroenteritis worldwide, and leading cause of food toxinfection easily "acquired" through recreational waters. |
