Workshop "Satellite data as remote sensors - open source: acquisition, processing and applying in different scientific domains"

Last February 14 the Workshop "Satellite data as remote sensors - open source: acquisition, processing and applying in different scientific domains" took place at IST Alameda Campus.  This one-day workshop jointly organized by CERENA and the Department of Computer Science and Systems Engineering from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (DCSS-WUST).

The workshop was an opportunity to bring together MSc and PhD students, and researchers from different earth science domains to explore and discuss strategies for acquisition and processing of satellite remote sensing data for environmental applications using open-source tools.

Anna Kaminska-Chuchmala, an Assistant Professor at DCSS-WUST leaded the workshop and presented an introduction to satellite data and open-source tools, and results from applied research using satellite imagery. The workshop ended with a lab session where participants explored the use of open source tools to extract satellite information.

Thanks to all participants from the organizing committee and Erasmus + Programme of European Union and IST for co-funding the event.
