EUROMASSA and EUROPAPEL projects compete for €10,000 prototype funding to transform euro banknote waste into eco-friendly solutions.
Two proposals involving CERENA members are among the eleven projects that have advanced to the second phase of the "Let's Give a Second Life to Banknotes" competition, organized by Banco de Portugal. The competition focuses on finding innovative ways to reuse euro banknote waste that no longer meets the quality standards required for circulation. The goal is to identify environmentally sustainable, value-generating alternatives to incineration.
The selected proposals, EUROMASSA and EUROPAPEL, will compete to become one of the three finalists chosen to move forward to the prototype development phase. Each finalist will receive up to €10,000 in support for their prototype development. The EUROMASSA: Reciclagem de Notas de Euro para Produção de Argamassas Sustentáveis, Inovadoras e Multifuncionais proposal brings together members from CERENA and CERIS, while the EUROPAPEL proposal involves participants from CERENA, CERIS, and the Moinho do Papel (Câmara Municipal de Leiria).
On March 25th, at 14:30, the candidates will have seven minutes to present their projects publicly at the Museu do Dinheiro. A jury will select the three finalists, with the final decision to be announced by May 30, 2025.
