Circular economy and revalorisation of NORM waste: examples from gold mining in South Africa by Frank Winde
Frank Winde Studied Geography, Geology, Sociology and Environmental Chemistry. Three years of field research in U-mining regions of Central Europe, Southern Africa, and Tropical Australia. PhD (Halle, 1996), Habilitation (Jena, 2003). More than 20 years in South Africa: gold mining industry + academia. Since 2004: Professor (NWU). Numerous interdisciplinary projects on U and mining for SA governmental departments, NNR, WHO, IARC, IAEA, Co-Chief Assessor UNESCO for IHP VII.
He was elected Chair IGU-Commission for Water Sustainability. Frank published more than 200 papers + research reports, reviewer for international journals and science funding bodies. Frank joined Wismut in 2019, a German government company specialising in remediating U-mining legacy sites.
'Smart Mining for Energy Transition' by Amílcar Soares
Amilcar Soares is Full Professor at the Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon) and VisitingProfessor at some other schools at UAE, Australia and Brazil.
He was a Distinguished Lecturer of the International Association of Mathematical Geosciences. He is the coordinator of a research group for the application of Spatial Data Sciences in the mining and petroleum industry.
His most recent R&D work is focused on geostatistical and spatial data sciences methods applied to the seismic characterization of mineral and energy resources.
The event will be in a hybrid format in, presential at IST and via Zoom.
