Paper published: Mechanical characterization of thermal activated low-carbon recycled cement mortars

The paper Mechanical characterization of thermal activated low-carbon recycled cement mortars, by J.A.Bogas, A.Carriço & M.F.C.Pereira, was published in Journal of Cleaner Production.

In this study the potential of thermally activated recycled cement was demonstrated. These reactivated binders can contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and raw material extraction associated with cement production, thus lowering the environmental impact of the construction industry. Further studies should focus on the optimization of the dehydration temperature, fineness and hydration activity of new recycled cements. In addition, developing an efficient method to separate the matrix from the aggregates in concrete would significantly increase the efficiency of the recycled binder.
